he Bikeability Level 2 course is designed to give young cyclists the skills and knowledge they need to ride safely and confidently on quiet roads. The fundamental skills covered in this course include:

  • Bike and helmet check: This includes checks on the bike’s brakes, gears, tyres, and the helmet’s fit and adjustment.
  • Start and stop: The ability to start and stop the bike confidently and securely in a controlled manner.
  • Signals and observations: The ability to signal and look over the shoulder for other road users when changing direction.
  • Road positioning: The understanding of where to ride on the road, including taking the primary or secondary position.
  • Junctions: The ability to approach, assess, and safely cross minor and major roads at junctions.
  • Hazard awareness: The knowledge of potential hazards on the road, how to identify them, and how to respond appropriately.
  • Understanding of traffic flow: The ability to read and understand the traffic flow and adjust riding accordingly.
